The Archer Group Recognized With Multiple ‘Outstanding Website’ Awards by Web Marketing Association

September 18, 2007

WILMINGTON, Del. — With subjects ranging from 5,000-year-old mummies to offshore wind farms that could be a prime energy source in the future, the Archer Group, Delaware’s premier interactive marketing firm, this week received three awards from the Web Marketing Association.

The association recognized three Web sites created by the Archer Group as among the best in the nation in their particular industries. The winning Web sites were: www.visitdelaware.com, for the Delaware Tourism Office; www.MummiesFilm.com, promoting Mummies: Secrets of the Pharoahs, the IMAX film that premiered in March 2007; and www.bluewaterwind.com, for Bluewater Wind, which has proposed building the nation’s first offshore wind farm in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Rehoboth Beach, Del.

"It is very gratifying to be recognized by the WMA for these Web sites,” said Lee Mikles, CEO of the Archer Group. “I was especially excited for our clients, Bluewater Wind and Giant Screen Films, whose sites earned their first awards. The continued praise for VisitDelaware, with its third award, confirms the strength of that site in promoting Delaware. The varied design and function of these winners showcases the strength of the Archer Group team in meeting a wide range of marketing challenges."

The Web Marketing Association was founded in 1997 to help set a high standard for Internet marketing and corporate web development. The organization is made up of Internet marketing, advertising, public relations, and design professionals who share an interest for improving the quality of advertising, marketing, and promotion used to attract visitors to corporate Web sites. Now in its 11th year, Web Awards is the premier annual award competition that judges Web site development against an ever-increasing Internet standard and against peer sites within 96 different industries.

For the Delaware Tourism Office site, the Archer Group received an Outstanding Web Site award in the travel category. “Nice layout and easy to navigate,” one judge remarked. “This site really sells Delaware. It separates customer segments effectively and has a great search functionality,” another said. The site allows users to identify venues and events by category, location and date and to plan travel itineraries as well. It also includes links to hundreds of visitor destinations in the state.
For the Mummies site, the Archer Group received an Outstanding Web Site award in the education category. The site, developed in conjunction with the IMAX Film producer, Giant Screen Films, features not only trailers from the film but also a wealth of information on Egyptian history and a mummies quiz game modeled on the Jeopardy television game show.

For the Bluewater Wind site, the Archer Group received a Standard of Excellence award in the energy category. “Nice, clean site. Good use of video to help deliver the message,” one judge commented. The site features multiple images of turbines spinning silently as they capture the wind that will be transformed into electrical energy, and an easy-to-follow video that gives a step-by-step description of how a wind farm would be built. Bluewater Wind is now negotiating a contract with Delmarva Power to sell the utility power that would be generated by the proposed wind farm.
