When La Salle University requested that Archer send a guest speaker for its Digital Arts and Multimedia Design (DArt) Seminar on the “Big Picture”, we obligingly handed them our Creative Director Sean Trapani. Sean was the perfect candidate to speak to this audience of freshmen, sophomore, and junior DArt majors, as he once was a fledgling designer who worked his way up to creative director.
Sean presented students with valuable advice on pursuing a career in digital arts and media – from getting a foot in the door, to landing a job, to climbing the career ladder. He related some of his own experiences, as well as the qualities he looks for when hiring a candidate to join his team.
Then came portfolio talk. Students know how important their portfolios are, and Sean was sure to discuss the “dos and don’ts,” showing examples of his own employees’ portfolio work. He also presented some of Archer’s client work to give students an idea of what they might expect to work on in a professional setting.
After his presentation, Sean opened the floor up to student questions. They asked about effective ways to “sell” the work, the fine balance of work and life, and more. He could already see the ambition in some of the students – a few of them asked for his business card, and one requested that Sean review his portfolio.
Archer wishes all La Salle’s future design stars good luck as they pursue their dreams!
