Starting the Sharepoint 2007 install

I just threw the behemoth SharePoint 2007 ISO on our new clean Dev Server. The Server is MS Windows Server 2003 R2. I will be installing the following prerequisites:

  • IIS 6.0
  • .Net Framework 3.0

I am using the following 2 books as a guideline:

After running through the default install SQL Server was using all available RAM and I couldn’t even log into the machine. According to MS the minimum RAM is 2GB. Therefore, I upped the memory to 2GB.

Also , I installed SQL Server Management Studio Express and limited the amount of memory SQL Server consumes:

  1. Open Management Studio Express
  2. Right click on the SQL Server -> Properties
  3. Select Memory
  4. Adjust Maximum server memory (in MB) to 512.

Server performance is now greatly improved. Pages load right away.
